Search work splits in two: the parts that are genuinely in our control, and the parts that are not. We do the first properly and we say plainly that nobody controls the second.

We won't promise a ranking, a position or a traffic number.

No agency controls Google's algorithm, and the ones telling you otherwise are hoping you will not check. What we do is get the parts genuinely in our control right, from the first line of code.

Technical SEO, set up during the build

This is the part that is fully ours, and it is done while the site is being built rather than bolted on later. It is included in a website build at no extra charge, so nobody sells you the floor twice.

The structure

Clean URLs, a sensible heading structure, a title and description written for every page, an XML sitemap and a correct robots file.

Structured data

Markup describing your business in the format search engines read, so they know what you do rather than guessing from the page text.

Speed and stability

Google factors both into ranking through Core Web Vitals. A static-first build starts with an advantage there rather than clawing one back later.

Search Console, set up and verified

Google's own reporting on your site, connected at launch, so the data starts banking from day one instead of from the day somebody thinks to turn it on. It cannot be backfilled.

Ongoing SEO

The technical setup is a floor, not a finish. Ongoing work is the part you buy separately, and it is monthly: looking at which search terms are actually bringing people in, fixing what has broken as the site has changed, improving the pages that are close to useful, and writing new ones where there is a real question customers ask that the site does not answer.

The reporting side of that lives in a care plan, which is where the monthly report and the rank tracking sit. There is no point paying for two things that do the same job.

The other half

What we will not do

Four things a search agency can sell you that we will not, and the reason for each. Three of them are against Google's own rules; the fourth is against its own guidance.

Promise a position

Covered above, and we are not going to soften it further down the page.

Buy links

They are against Google's guidelines and the risk lands on your domain, not ours.

Mark up your own reviews for stars

Google states that when the business controls the page the reviews sit on, those pages are not eligible for star review results, and it treats the markup as a violation. Your reviews belong on your Google Business Profile, where they count and where customers trust them.

Sell you a keyword pass on your headings

Google's own starter guide declines to connect headings to keywords at all. Headings are there so a reader can find the bit they came for.

Who it suits

Search work is slow

A business whose site was built without any of this, which is most sites. A business that ranks for its own name and nothing else. A business that has just launched and wants the technical side right before anything else is spent.

Search work is slow, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. If you need the phone to ring sooner rather than later, that is what Google Ads is for. If your customers find you on a map rather than a search results page, start with your Google Business Profile.

Ask what is actually wrong with it.

Send us your site address and we will tell you what the search setup is missing, in plain terms, with no obligation to go ahead.
