Google Ads Management

Ads are the fastest way to appear at the top of a search, and the fastest way to spend money on the wrong clicks. Nearly all of the difference is in the setup: the right search terms, ads that match them, and tracking that tells you which enquiries came from where.

Whose money is whose

Two separate amounts, and it matters that you understand this before anybody quotes you.

The ad budget is paid to Google

It is your money, in your account, and you set it. We do not mark it up and it does not come to us.

Our fee is for building and managing

Quoted to scope, like everything else here. If anybody bundles those two into a single number, ask which part is which.

The ads themselves

Written to a format that is stricter than people expect.

15 × 30 Google's limit on a responsive search ad: up to fifteen headlines at thirty characters each, plus up to four descriptions at ninety. Anything longer gets cut.

Google also rates the ad partly on genuine variety across those headlines, so writing one line fifteen different ways is fifteen slots wasted.

The account

Set up properly in your name, or cleaned up if you already have one somebody else built.

The search terms

The ones worth paying for, and just as importantly the negative ones. Half the money wasted in a small ads account goes to searches that were never going to become a job.

Conversion tracking

Without it, an ads account tells you how many clicks you bought, not how many enquiries you got. We wire your enquiry form to the account so the spend can be matched against real enquiries rather than traffic.

Location targeting

Set to where you actually work. Worth checking on an inherited account, because a default radius quietly buys clicks from three suburbs you would never drive to.

The dependency

Your Google profile feeds your ads

Location details in your ads are pulled from your Google Business Profile. If the profile carries the wrong category, the wrong hours or an old address, the ads inherit it and you pay for the mistake. So the profile gets checked before the campaign goes live, and if the two ever need to change, they change in the right order.

Where the ads land

An ad is only as good as its page

If that page is slow, or does not say what the ad promised, you pay for the click twice: once to Google, and once in the enquiry you did not get. We will tell you when the page is the problem rather than the campaign, even when that is a less convenient answer. See web design.

What we will not promise

A cost per enquiry, a position, or a number of leads

The auction moves, your competitors move, and anybody quoting you a cost per lead before they have run a single campaign is guessing at your expense.

What you get instead

The account set up in your name, the tracking wired so the numbers are real, and a clear read on what the spend produced.

Who it suits

Enquiries sooner rather than later

A business that needs enquiries sooner rather than later. A brand new site with no search history yet. A service where one job comfortably covers a stretch of clicks. A seasonal business that wants to be visible in the weeks that matter and switch off for the rest.

If you want the slower, cheaper, longer-lasting version of this, that is SEO, and most businesses eventually want both. If you are selling products, an online store that already converts is what makes ad spend worth starting.

Ask what a campaign would involve.

Tell us what you do, where you work, and what a good job is worth to you. You will get a straight answer on whether ads are worth it for your business, including when they are not.
