Build it

Online Stores, Built on Shopify

If you sell things, the store is the business, so it has to be something you can run yourself on a Tuesday night. We build on Shopify: the theme, the product data, the domain and the email, then we show you how to work it. Shopify runs the hosting and the checkout, and we handle everything either side of that.

Why Shopify, and what that means for you

Shopify hosts the store and runs the checkout. That is deliberate. The two parts of an online shop that absolutely cannot break are the parts we hand to a company that does nothing else, which leaves us free to build the thing customers actually look at.

It also means your store plays by Shopify's rules, and we will tell you where those rules bite before you commit rather than after.

What a store build covers

The theme

Built for your products and your brand, not a marketplace theme with the logo swapped out.

Your products

Product data, images and content brought across from wherever they live now. Where the photography is not good enough to sell with, we will say so, and we can source what is missing.

The domain and the email

Your domain pointed at the store, DNS handled, and email wired up so orders and enquiries actually arrive. This is the step that goes wrong most often on a self-built store.

Tracking

Analytics set up from day one, so you can see which products people look at and where they leave.

Training

We walk you through adding a product, changing a price and finding an order, before we hand it over. A store you cannot run yourself is not finished.

The honest limit

What a store will not be

A store is not a six page brochure site.

It carries product images, a cart, and Shopify's own scripts, so it will never be as light as the pages we build on our own stack, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What carries across is the floor: accessibility, no page builder, and a build that is checked against a written list before it ships.

A store also takes longer to build than a brochure site. Migration and training are real work, and they are why.

Who it suits

Is a store the right build?

A business selling physical products that has outgrown taking orders through messages. A shop that wants to sell online without rebuilding its whole way of working. A business already selling somewhere else that wants its own store under its own domain.

If you are selling a service rather than a product, you probably want a website rather than a store. If you already have a store on another platform and want it moved, that is a redesign and migration. A live store needs watching more than a brochure site does, which is website care, and the obvious next question is Google Ads, where the honest answer is that ads pay for a store that already converts.
